Virgin Hurricane Recipe-

Ingredients-

  • 2 cups Passion Fruit Juice
  • 1 cup Orange Juice
  • 1 cup Pineapple Juice
  • 1/2 lime to 1 lime depending on taste
  • A generous pour of Grenadine syrup for that lovely color
  • Lemon lime soda of your choice- diet is ok, but remember that fruit juice has lots of carbs
  • Ice
  • Garnish: orange slice and cherry, lime if you like it tart

Directions

  • Mix fruit juice in pitcher (recipe can be doubled) add half the lime and more if needed
  • Add grenadine syrup for taste, sweetness, and color
  • Set mix aside- grenadine will settle so make sure you mix just before pouring into glasses
  • Fill Hurricane glasses with ice
  • Pour glasses 2/3 to 3/4 full with fruit juice mixture
  • Add lemon lime soda to thin juice, stir, garnish, and serve

Your guests will have so much fun watching the parade with these mock-tails they might even forget there’s no alcohol in them.

Don’t forget to read King of the Mardi Gras: A Short Story From Eden’s Garden and Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler (let the good times roll).

About The Author:

I am a full-time mom to a sassy, strong-willed, loveable little girl. Okay, so she is all me. I am on the wrong side of 30, and I have been allysamarried to my best friend for over eight years. Like most couples, we have our ups and downs, but I could not imagine doing life with anyone else by my side. We are Southern California transplants, currently residing in a very rural part of the east coast. I have two crazy dogs that I adore, even though they drive me out of my ever-loving mind, most days.

I have recently rediscovered my love of words and decided to become a writer. My first story is my heart and soul, and it reaches into the depths of all that is me. I also create covers, promos, and logos for  authors. I have met some amazing friends on this journey that I now happily call family. Without my family members, whether biological or chosen, I would not be half the person I am today. Their constant love and support keep me afloat.

Liquid Friday with author Paula Scardamalia

This week we are featuring author, book coach and dream consultant for People Magazine Paula Scardamalia and her book: Weaving a Woman’s Life: Spiritual Lessons from the Loom.

But before we even dream of looking at her work, let us find out what is Paula’s favorite cocktail that she recommends for us this Friday evening.

Mojito with Citron Vodka

My favorite drink, especially in the summertime, is a mojito. I love the bright summery taste of fresh mint from our yard mixed with the tang of fresh lime juice. And unlike some mojito recipes that use mojitirum, I use citron vodka. The drink holds good memories of playing with friends in San Diego several summers ago at a hotel bar that had a special on mojitos. When I ordered one the bartender said she’d run out of rum but would use citron vodka and that I would like it. I did. And that’s the way I’ve fixed my mojitos ever since.

In large tumbler:
Put 12 large mint leaves with the juice from ¼ of a lime.
Bruise mint in lime juice, and then fill glass with crushed ice
Add 1 1/2 oz citron vodka (optional)
Fill glass with Mist Twist (old Sierra Mist) and stir.

Find a comfortable spot, put your feet up, take a sip, and relax. Ahhhh!  Time to check into the book.

“The thoughtful and challenging spiritual lessons found here may indeed draw from ancient myths and the timeless activities of weaving-a-womans-life-195x300women of wisdom—but any man lucky enough to encounter them will learn as much about his own life textures as he will of the intricacies of female experience. This is a gentle and instructive book that reconnects all of us with some of the deepest fabric of our shared past and living present.” ~Joanna Bull, Founder of Gilda’s Club Worldwide

Excerpt from Lesson Five: Intention and Perspective—Creating the Vision

“Remember how many of our favorite fairy tales begin with a woman expressing her heart’s deepest desire? Often that desire, as in Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Thumbelina, and Rapunzel, is a woman longing to give birth to a child. The story does not really begin until the vision or intention is expressed. Then magic happens.

In order to wind a warp for the loom, I must first express or envision what I want to weave. The “story” of my weaving will not come to a happy ending if I wind a narrow warp of seven inches, put it on my loom, and then decide after the warp is threaded and tied on that I want to weave a shawl that is twenty-eight inches wide. I must then either unthread that warp, putting it aside, and wind on a new one that is the required width, or I can weave off the narrow warp first and then put on the wider warp for that shawl. Either option wastes time, effort, and perhaps even yarn. I will not be able to make up this loss later.

For our lives to unfold like the fairy tales of old, we must express the intention or vision for our lives—our heart’s deepest desires.”

Weaving a Woman’s Life: Spiritual Lessons from the Loom, won several awards, including a Bronze in the Self-Help category in Foreword Magazine’s 2006 Book of the Year Awards.

A Villain for Vanessa by Alice Orr

A story of tangled roots and tormented love.

Two families are shaken to their roots. Vanessa Westerlo must find her roots. Bobby Rizzo aliceis torn between Vanessa and his true roots. They are all tormented by love – past and too present.  Meanwhile a man has been murdered. And that is the most tormented tangle of all.

Alice Orr is known for “Delicious suspense spiced with a love story.”  She does it again in A Villain for Vanessa.

A Villain for Vanessa is Book 4 of the Riverton Road Romantic Suspense series set in Riverton, New York. This book features the Kalli family and the fortunate people who find safety and welcome at the Kalli homestead on Riverton Road. A Villain for Vanessa – Riverton Road Romantic Suspense Book 4

An Excerpt by Alice Orr

Suddenly, after two and a half decades of silence, Angela Kalli’s niece had decided to reappear. Bobby Rizzo’s legal training and life experience had taught him to ask one question when a person acts in an inexplicable way. What does she want? Whatever the answer might be, Vanessa Westerlo’s agenda was far down his list of priorities. He was here to protect Angela, even though experience had taught him something else too.

Family history is a tangled story with the truth nearly impossible to unwind. Many of those tangles had a secret at the center, like the secret at the center of today. He was the only person Angela had told about her niece’s arrival. She’d arrived at Bobby’s office a few days ago, more unhinged than he’d ever seen her.

“Why are you so upset?” he’d asked.

“You have to swear you’ll never breathe a word to anybody. Otherwise I’ll walk out now, and you can forget I was ever here.”

Angela perched on the edge of the chair by his desk like a frightened bird. He’d never seen her frightened, and he certainly didn’t think of her as a bird.

“If you are here as my client, I’m obligated to keep everything you say confidential.”

Talking like a lawyer to someone he cared so deeply about felt awkward, but it put her at ease.

“Then I am your client,” Angela said, settling down a little. “I need your help to bring my niece back into my life, whatever the cost may be.”

Bobby didn’t like the sound of that.

“What is it you want me to do?” he asked.

Throughout the conversation that followed, the voices of his common sense and legal judgement had screamed through his gut like a freight train telling him he was on a dangerous track. That train continued to roar as he paced the narrow airport terminal now, waiting for Angela’s niece to arrive.

alice-booksWas she coming to Riverton to continue the feud he’d heard about that day between her mother and Angela? Was Vanessa Westerlo here to take revenge? Or could she be motivated by idle curiosity? Angela cared so much. What if her niece didn’t care at all? Indifference would be the worst kind of wound to a heart as open as Angela’s.

“I won’t let that happen,” he said aloud to the empty terminal.

By the time the plane landed and taxied down the short runway, Bobby was on the tarmac and ready, his resolve as unshakable as if he were in front of the toughest jury of his career in a case he absolutely had to win. Then he saw her and something unfamiliar and unwelcome happened.

Bobby experienced a powerful ripple, like a seismic shift along a crucial fault line far beneath his controlled surface, threatening to rise and turn him suddenly less resolute. All because of a resemblance that couldn’t have been more obvious between the aunt he represented and loved like a mother, and the niece this young woman had to be.

Thick, dark hair was the first thing he saw, with a kind of life that seemed to spring from a vibrancy at the center of her. She was halfway across the distance from the plane when she turned her head quickly. Angela made that same move when she was impatient, as she could often be, even with him.

More often though, she’d been his encourager, the person who scolded him back on track when he strayed off course. Without her, he would not have won scholarships to college and law school. Without her, he wouldn’t be what he had become. He steeled himself against his first startling reaction to the striking young woman headed toward him now, who was so capable of causing Angela pain.

“Excuse me. Are you Robert Rizzo?”

This week we are featuring International Award winning Author, Lyricist, Poet and a Humorist: David Ellis and his book Life, Sex & Death – A Poetry Collection Vol. 1

But before we cross the line into his book, let us find out what cocktail does David recommend for this evening.

My drink would be a Gin, Elderflower & Prosecco cocktail because it is elegant and when drinking it I feel like I’m James Bond on an exotic island 🙂 I also have a very sweet tooth, so if I can’t have biscuits or cake then this will do very nicely.

gin_proseccoHere is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 2 parts Gin
  • 1 part Elderflower Liqueur
  • Prosecco
  • Lime Wedges
  • Sugar (for the rim of the glass)

Instructions

  1. Fill a shaker with ice and add the Gin and Elderflower Liqueur. Shake to combine.

  4. Serve immediately.

Book blurb:

Life, Sex & Death – A Poetry Collection Vol 1″ is an International Award winning volume, having won an award in the Readers’ Favorite 2016 Book Award Contest for Inspirational Poetry Books.
Life, Sex & Death” is all about exploring themes of Inspirational, Philosophical and Love/Romance. There is humour, art, wit, passion lifeand self help throughout all the diverse styles found in this book. My poems explore emotional depth of the human condition and try to make sense of the world, even when it is at its most extreme and unforgiving, there are still beautiful things to inspire us and give us courage. I write to give people hope and confidence in their lives, to take chances on the unknown and above all to love and respect themselves, along with sharing endless kindness with others.

Here is a sample poem from my poetry book Life, Sex & Death:

A Double Edged Sword (by David Ellis)

Pride can be a sword
That can stab you in the back
Don’t be the one
To take the fall
If confidence is what you lack

Hate can be a mistake
A jealous enemy you can forsake
Consumed by evil
You derail your goals
Hampering any progress you make

Be proud of yourself
Focus on all your achievements
Look at how far
That you have come
The lives touched now have purpose

Face your fears
Your mind is now crystal clear
An ocean of serene calm
Where once was a storm
Now you’re the pilot and the bombardier

Asking for help
Is not a weakness
And neither is
Helping others

So wear your proudness
On your sleeves
And remember
To inspire others
As they have done for you

A perfect circle
That makes us all complete
No need to compete
No need for anger, fear, loathing
Just love and peace

Liquid Friday with author Aimée Marie Bejerano

This week we are featuring Christian YA author of inspirational, historical fiction and paranormal thriller/horror novels Aimée Marie Bejerano and her book Angelica: You Have Chosen Well.

But before we take upon the quest of learning about Aimee’s book, let us find out what is her favorite drink.

I’m a huge diet Coke lover. I started drinking it to help with chalky mouth DietCokefrom my medication, lol. Now, if you’re talking about an adult beverage, I don’t do social drinking or drink on a regular basis unless it’s according to

1 Timothy 5:23: “Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.” King James Version (KJV)

This basically means, if you have sickness in your stomach or other infirmities, to have a LITTLE wine to help. That’s precisely what I do. I have chronic digestion issues, diverticulitis and sour stomach. I also have chronic pain due to Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. So, according manishewitzto God’s word, I drink a little wine to help, not to get a buzz or to get drunk. The one wine that helps me the most, is chilled Manischewitz wine. I put a lot of ice into it, I know this sounds strange, but it’s a very sweet wine. I only need a tiny amount and just as the Bible says, it completely helps my stomach or my body.  I started drinking it probably over 10 years ago when my mother reminded me of the Bible verse and encouraged me to have a little to help. I’m thankful she did because it does help me quite a bit lol.

So let us grab a little glass of Manishewitz wine or a Diet Coke (for those who would rather abstain for tonight, and dive right into the pages of Aimée Marie Bejerano‘s book  Angelica: You Have Chosen Well:

Blurb:

“There are crucial decisions Angelica must make regarding her life and purpose.”

angelica“Will she expire in a jail cell? Will she select death for the One she loves?”
“Aimee’s descriptions of the era are done so well that you will feel like you are right there with Angelica. At times I was bold with her and other times, well most of the time, I wished I was as courageous in the Lord as Angelica. Don’t miss out on this truly inspirational read, geared toward introducing a very personal relationship with Christ as well as encouraging one in their faith to stand up for him no matter what life may bring.”- Victoria Simcox

One prophetic night of birth, shakes and shapes history as we know it.

The life of a beautiful girl from Bethlehem, born that same prophetic night as Jesus, faces her final end when she is forced to decide either renounce Jesus and live or acknowledge Him and die.
Angelica was arrested and imprisoned, by Saul of Tarsus, for preaching on the narrow streets of Jerusalem. While awaiting a angelica2horrible death of stoning, she decides to write her life’s story which begins in Bethlehem when her father an inn keeper met a young couple one night. He had no room in the inn. All he had to offer them was a stable. Follow her on the journey of her life as she meets Bible characters and sees things her innocent eyes have never seen before.
Will Angelica’s life mission end in a prison cell…will she choose life or will she choose death for the One she loves?

This novel will make you walk away a believer and broken questioning the very core of your being. Are you brave enough to read it?

Excerpt:

Jesus has already suffered the ultimate crucifixion.  Rising again causes fear in the heart of the King, jealous of any arrival of a so-called “new king”.

Jerusalem is in utter mayhem, full of soldiers and stampeding horses, a complete panic. Those who believe in Jesus are arrested, imprisoned, and put to death by Saul of Tarsus.  He zealously persecutes the church, seizing men and women, called the ‘followers’ or ‘Christians’ for causing uproar.  The uproar, telling people about Jesus Christ, the One many speak of, Who was dead and His body stolen. The Christians however, faithful to Jesus, know better.

Early one dusky morning, a man saunters down a steep, stony staircase leading into a cold, underground prison where the walls seep of water.  A wretched, lingering scent reeks of death throughout the dark, damp and brisk prison.  Its walls hold the memory of those dying and having perished inside the grey and black encumbrance.

At the end of the stairs sits a wooden chair and a small, round table where a candle, dripping of wax, remains lit.  The only light illuminates throughout the darkened prison.  The man passes by the cells, to the right and left, holding men and women, who will be put to death for their crimes.  Their only crime is to preach Jesus Christ.  angelica youThe prisoners sing songs to the Lord, while many others pray, fearfully eyeing the man who passes their cell. Thoughts prick their mind, “Am I next?”  His armor clinks and his sandals sweep across the hard, stoned floor until he finally stops at the last cell of the prison.  Disdainfully, he looks down on one prisoner.

“Woman, I have what you sent for.”  Speaking abruptly and callously, there stands the prison guard, dressed in red and gold armor. He leers at the young woman through the cell bars.  She lies on a bed of hay, her legs tucked tightly to her bosom.  Her arms are crossed as she sleeps. Struggling to keep warm, her eyes barely open, from sheer exhaustion.

The woman of fair complexion snuggles, with a head wrap. She wears an off-white gown with a colored, striped sash.  In an unlit cell, lying in a puddle of putrid water, her hair shines like the sun, in long ringlets.  Her sky blue eyes distract from the obvious dirt and grime staining her body and clothing.

Liquid Friday with Author Sharon BuchBinder

This week we are featuring  1st Place Winner, 2015 Paranormal Romance Guild’s Reviewer’s Choice Award, Historical Paranormal Romance Category Sharon BuchBinder

Let’s hear a word from the author about her favorite drink:

My favorite drink is Native Flora Rosé, Jolly Ranger, which tastes like summer in a bottle and drinks well with a deck on a Friday afternoon.

2011-JR-Bottle-Shot-600x1500Rosé, “The Jolly Rancher”, is a unique blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, with just a touch of Malbec, all grown on Native Flora estate. The three grapes are co-fermented, not blended after fermentation. As a result, the cherry and berry notes of the Pinot Noir are infused with tones of pink grapefruit and melon from the Pinot Blanc, while the Malbec lends a unique aromatic and finish. Crisp acidity and a long finish are hallmarks of this fun, near-cult status favorite.

So let us relax with a glass of this fine wine and learn more about book 2 of the Kiss of the Jinni Hunter Series:

Amber LacieAmber Lacie grew up in Chicagoland and now lives in a quaint little town in Northwest Indiana. She has two beautiful children and a husband who worships the ground she walks on (or at least he should). She is an avid reader and coffee drinker. The love of being able to be transported into another world and experience adventures through someone else’s imagination has always captured her attention. Now, she is expanding that love into writing and is looking forward to producing many books.

Chapter 1.2

A faint blush on Joy’s silken skin spoke volumes of her interest. I made a mental note to proceed cautiously. Her eyes drifted towards the purse laying on the ground and I bent to retrieve it. Maybe it was because she was a woman with a mind to tame me or maybe it just was the awareness that my heart felt strangely lighter, but I decided to take up the challenge of wooing her no matter what the reason.

She walked towards the parked cars and I followed. Leaning up against the side of a shiny new black Rolls Royce, Joy’s alabaster fingers reached into her purse and retrieved a cellular phone. “My brother’s inside. I’m just going to let him know where I am. He’s such a worrier.” The faint sound of the text being sent prompted her to put the phone away. She held the purse behind her. The change in position of her arms straightened her back and lifted her breasts. My first thought was that she was a military brat, too. The itching of my palms to cup those breasts removed anything other than basic cerebral function in me. It was with torturous restraint that I kept a proper distance between us.

An irresistible ‘come hither’ look, shook my resolve. My hand slipped in between hers and the small of her back. I crushed her between me and the car and found her lips as wanton and plump as a ripe passion fruit. My other hand cupped the back of her neck, careful not to disturb her hair. The kiss was meant to be chaste, but one taste of those lips made me a greedy thief. With great delight and more than a little fascination, I slipped my knee in between her legs and felt her moan into my mouth. It was as perfect a moment as could be had in a lifetime. A sound like fireworks came from the direction of the mansion and it took me a moment to realize that it was not in celebration of our first sacred moment together.

A piercing scream broke the sanctity of our soul’s dual confession. The sound of music coming from the party was suddenly replaced with a noisy ruckus inside the mansion. My eyes opened in the nick of time to see Adriana slip something into Joy’s purse and past us. Another set of popping sounds flew after her. Realizing what it was, I shoved Joy down to the ground and covered her with my body. “Stay down. Don’t make a sound.”

With my heart beating in my ears like a hammer on an anvil, I crouched down and scuttled after Adriana. A sound like popcorn popping loudly came from inside the Waveny Mansion as I reached out for her. As I dragged her down to the ground, Adriana reached up her dress and pulled out a 9mm handgun and squeezed off two rounds. Shit! I pushed her head down lower. “Son of a bitch!” she yelled, and I saw the blood leaking out of a graze on her right side. “I was going to wear this dress again. Shit!” she yelled, and climbed over me to fire another round. “He’s down. I got him,” she said with a triumphant grin and stood back up.

She reached a hand down to me. Just as I reached out to take it and breathed a quick sigh of relief, Adriana toppled over me and landed with a thud on the ground. Blood quickly spilled out of her head. “Adriana!” I cried, seeing the bullet hole between her eyes. She was gone and there was nothing I could do. I grabbed the 9mm out of her hand and scrambled towards Joy.

I motioned with my hand for her to stay down and be quiet. Footsteps sounded on the patio and a large man in a black tux with a red cummerbund and tie called out, “She’s over there by the Audi.” As he neared her body, my heart sank. I had kissed those lips and entertained notions of a future with her. Even though we weren’t together, the pain of Adriana’s loss cut into me like a hot knife. Slowly, I got into position to fire off a shot at him. Another set of footsteps stopped me. “Does she have it?” a slender man with crooked glasses asked as he approached him.

“No, it’s not here. Go one by one and search the guests. She must have handed it off. Don’t let anyone leave,” the bigger guy said.

“I’m not cleaning this up. This was your mistake, in the first place. You’re dealing with…” the slender man he fell forwards to the floor and twitched for a moment as his blood spilled out around him.

“Hot tempered little prick. That’ll be the last time you threaten to snitch on me,” the large man gloated over the fallen body of his associate.

Chapter 1.1

Intro:

One of the best things I learned as a child was that stories were adventures you could take on even the bleakest of days, days when the last petals of the rose fell away and there was nothing more than a grey day. As I matured, that beautiful escape became something of a passion. I began to weave stories to chase away even the most aggressive tempest, protecting that delicate bloom inside. Yet, a beautiful flower longs to be admired in all its stages.

Today, I’d like to share this story with you. I have no idea where it will take us and what the adventure will be like. The characters will tell us who they are and what they care to do one page at a time. The blossom will grow and change from the tiny seed I leave you with today, until it grows to fruition. We will get to know its fragrance and charm. Maybe, just maybe, we will even learn its nature.

I invite you to pick my brain with your feedback and messages. Tell me what you love or hate and why. I make no promises about revisions, but I’m as attentive a reader as I am a writer and your words will stay with me as I hope mine will with you. We will begin with a light flirtation and let the story unfold. Since everything flowers in my garden, story may end up anywhere from a light sweet romance to a dark BDSM. Adult readers only, please.
